OUR MISSION

Democratic Exercise is a free, non-partisan, community-oriented walking program that is organized monthly in Toronto. It pairs strangers together to walk— and talk— a mile in each other’s shoes.

ABOUT US...in four steps

1.jpg

The program aspires to strengthen any body with everybody; using exercise to power exchanges to create greater empathy among people from different walks of life.

The exchangeS happen over complimentary to-go coffees that feature a surprise question…which participants must answer to one another on a MAP-GUIDED 2 mile-long walk.

Launched in Toronto as a pilot project in the spring of 2018, we aspire to roll-out regional chapters in different cities in the near future (after we work out the kinks).

Democratic Exercise is a community project that is funded, incubated and voluntarily staffed by Behaviour INC. and its employees.

HOW IT WORKS

democratic exercise happens monthly— rain or shine— near Trinity Bellwoods Park in Toronto.

The event is open to any body from any walk of life.

we ask that you sign up— in the form above— so we brew enough coffee.

At the event, you’ll be given a complimentary coffee.

The to-go coffee cup features a surprise question.

With coffee in hand, you’ll be paired up with a stranger.

The two of you will be given a map.

The map communicates a unique 2 mile walking route.

The walk takes approximately 30 minutes to complete.

The map's walking route has two legs— marked in pink and blue— each are a mile in length.

On mile one, the person with the pink coffee CUP Reads their question ALOUD THEN ANSWERS IT.

On mile two, the person with the blue coffee CUP Reads their question ALOUD THEN ANSWERS IT.

You collectively decide the depth of the exchange; speak, listen or converse.

At the end of the two mile route, you can freely part ways.

If you feel inclined, continue walking—and talking— in each other’s shoes.

OUR FOUR Principles

1.jpg

Every body type is welcome: Fit or not, every body is invited to exercise and exchange WITH US.

2.jpg

All walks of life stroll with us: Left, right, straight, LGbTQ+, male, female, binary, non-binary, ETC.

3.jpg

Open minds, closed phones: Participants must be present— whether speaking, listening or conversing— on walks.

4.png

Less other, more together: We encourage heartfelt exchanges over heated arguments. Please step with respect.
